My Top-Bar Hive so far.
I am going for simplicity for the first run. The angled sides are
a debate - some say they help reduce side-wall attachment.
I like the look, and the combs will be more stable - lighter as you get further out.
The rear brackets are to hang top-bars on when working the hive.
Still to come - front spacer, side-rails and a roof!
oh ya, and bees too...
Ideas for finishing the hive:
- covered vertical entrance, upper entrance 3/8" wide
- bottom screen
-
large holes along length of bottom board
- slot at bottom of rear with cover
to allow inserting mite-catcher strips
- ventilation slots in top bars, add up
to 3/8"
- roof with screen supported along center - this will rest on
top-bars and
cover vent slots
- end gabel vents in roof
